Breast Enhancement – All About Silicone Breast Implants

Breast Enhancement - All About Silicone Breast ImplantsIt is extremely common for women to be dissatisfied with the size and shape of their breasts. Breast enhancement (known technically as Breast Augmentation Mammoplasty) involves placing an artificial implant into the breast so as to increase the size of the breast and to produce an amount of uplift where necessary. Breast enhancement is by far the most popular cosmetic surgery procedure requested by women.

Why Have Breast Enhancement Surgery?

Whatever you might have heard to the contrary, other than surgery, there is no other method of increasing breast size evenly, safely and permanently.

The only generally accepted method to increase the size of the breast is to insert an implant into a space created behind your own breast. It is the size of this space (determined by your own anatomy) along with your own wishes, that determines the size of breast implant employed.

The Latest Generation of Silicone Breast Implants

Breast implants have come a long way since their inception. Modern implants are extremely safe, and you’ll be surprised at how incredibly strong they are. At many consultations, you will be able to see, feel and even try on recommended implants during initial consultation.

Silicones are in fact man-made molecules (polymers) that are widely used in numerous skin and hair products; in processed food and food packaging; in most baby foods; in many medicines, syringes and most other types of medical implants. Consequently every day:

  • We absorb silicone into our body through our skin
  • We ingest it in our food~It is fed to children
  • We feed it to our children~We absorb it from the food we consume
  • We may even inject it directly into our blood stream~It might even be injected into our bodies [...]

What You Ought to Know About Breast Implant History

Breast implantsBreast enlargement has a history that goes back over 119 years. During the first 65 years or so the enlargement was done primarily by directly injecting substances like paraffin, fat or silicon into the breasts. This method proved to be rather dangerous and led to many ill effects. Before the year 1962 plastic foam materials were used, however these too did not have much success. In 1963 two scientists namely Thomas Cronin and Frank Gerow did a research on breast implants and came up with the idea of implanting silicon bags directly into the breasts of women for breast enlargement. By the year 1972 a lot of women turned to these breast implants but also complained of many problems like leakage and ruptures. The silicon was then replaced with saline bags containing a saline (salt) solution. Even if these bags leaked there was no harm caused to the body as the water was absorbed up by the body.

The silicon breast implants used in present times for breast enlargement have gone over a number of changes from generation to generation. If we look at the history of breast implants, after 1963 there were three major generations of [...]

Basic Information About Three Types of Breast Implants

Basic Information About Three Types of Breast ImplantsAll women want larger, firmer breasts. Well, maybe not all women, but a great many of them do! The rise in popularity of breast augmentation surgery has made it the most performed plastic surgery in the world. Women want larger breasts and are willing to spend thousands of dollars to get them! They’re also willing to undergo surgery and all the risks that come with it.

If you’re a woman in the modern world and you’ve been considering breast augmentation surgery, you should know that you have three options for breast implants: traditional silicone gel implants, cohesive gel implants, and saline breast implants. Each implant has its own unique features and benefits.

Traditional silicone gel implants – these implants were banned by the FDA for 14 years. During that time, they were tested, researched, and scrutinized more than any other medical device in the history of mankind. Now that the FDA has approved them for unrestricted use, does that make them safe? Not necessarily, but you can certainly rest assured that they have undergone more testing and analysis than any other breast implant.

Pros and cons of traditional silicone gel implants – they require larger incisions than saline implants. This makes silicone gel breast augmentations prone to larger scarring. When they rupture, it is virtually impossible to detect without getting an MRI. On the positive side, silicone gel implants are known as the best “feeling” of the implants because of their silicone gel liquid filler; both men and women agree. [...]
